Carina Totty | Protecting Abortion: Women's Health Protection Act

The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA) for the second time in less than a year. This Bill protects the right to abortion care nationwide, despite the Supreme Court’s ruling. It first passed in September 2021 following the enforcement of Texas’ six-week abortion trigger ban. Unfortunately, the bill did not accumulate enough votes in the Senate to overcome the filibuster.

Judy Chu, Lois Frankel, Ayanna Pressley, and Veronica Escobar, all sponsored WHPA which passed 219-210 just weeks after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade. President Biden called on Congress to suspend the filibuster to ensure the bill would pass in the Senate, protecting abortion rights under federal law.

Support these women up for re-election so they can continue at the forefront of the abortion battle!
