Sen. Gillibrand appears to have avoided a primary challenge and is widely considered to be secure in her re-election. However, former Rep. Lee Zeldin, who made last year’s gubernatorial race with Gov. Kathy Hochul competitive, has not ruled out a run. If Zeldin gets into the race Gillibrand will have to raise significantly more funds for the general than she would otherwise.
