Democratic voters pummeled MAGA Tuesday, elevating Judge Susan Crawford to the Wisconsin Supreme Court over her Republican opponent by 10 percentage points. The turnout bleed continued down south, where Republicans in two Florida House districts notched victories, but at only half the margin Trump got in those districts last year.
These results are three more knots in a string of special election victories and overperformances Democrats have seen since the beginning of the year. Our base is clearly fired up and ready to vote.
This year, far from being an off year, is our opportunity to shore up Democratic power in the states and other down-ballot races.
New on our radar since we last talked about Virginia are:
- Lt. Gov. candidate Ghazala Hashmi, who currently serves as a state Senator in the 15th district and is the only woman in a seven candidate primary;
- Attorney General candidate Shannon Taylor, who is facing former Delegate Jay Jones in what is currently a two-person primary;
- District 22 candidate Elizabeth Guzman, a former Delegate who was redistricted out in 2023 and is looking to reclaim a seat;
- District 73 candidate Leslie Mehta, a medical charity founder who carries an endorsement from Abigail Spanberger;
- District 75 candidate Lindsey Dougherty, who’s mounting a rematch in a district she barely lost to the current incumbent in 2019;
- District 89 candidate Karen Robins Carnegie, a lawyer who’s taking on the only open, competitive House seat.
Rounding out the slate are Lily Franklin (District 41), May Nivar (District 57), Jessica Anderson (District 71), and Kimberly Pope Adams (District 82).
Most of these women have competitive primaries on June 17, so they need support ASAP—especially Ghazala and Shannon, as some local strategists are hand-wringing about having all women at the top of the ticket.
Give to our Virginia Pre-Primary slate now and help these women capitalize on this momentum.
