Happy Galentine’s Day!

Every February 13 we celebrate Galentine’s Day to honor female friendships and the power of women helping women. Because that’s what WomenCount is all about—coming together to help women candidates raise the money they need to run and win.

This year we got a couple pre-Galentine’s surprises:

On Tuesday, former Interior Secretary Deb Haaland announced she’s running for New Mexico governor in 2026. That’s on the heels of Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson announcing for Michigan governor last month—giving us two chances to keep top state offices in Democratic women’s hands.

Deb is seeking to replace term-limited Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, and Jocelyn term-limited Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

Will you make Deb, Jocelyn and the other three candidates on our Governor’s slate your Galentine by giving each of them $5 or more?

If elected, Deb would make history as the country’s first Native female governor. Her long history of public service includes:

  • Four years as US Secretary of the Interior under President Biden, where she presided over the creation of three new national monuments and a historic investigation into residential boarding schools;
  • Winning two elections to a House seat, the first of which, in 2018, made her one of the two first Native American women to be seated in Congress.
  • A term as chair of the New Mexico Democratic Party, during which the Democrats regained control of the state House.

Deb has the kind of dedication to pragmatic policy and Democratic party-building that we desperately need. Let’s help put her and the rest of the women on our governors slate on the path to victory.

The slate also includes Rep. Mikie Sherril (NJ) and former Rep. Abigail Spanberger (VA), both running this year, and Gov. Katie Hobbs (AZ), running next year.
