Around 3 am on May 14, as the House Energy and Commerce Committee was on the verge of passing the healthcare-cutting, deficit-exploding Republican budget bill, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez turned to the C-SPAN cameras.
“There are 13.7 million Americans on the other side of that screen there. Hello, hello, I’m talking to you because I work for you. They deserve to see what is happening here because there are plenty of districts, including Republican ones, where 25% of your constituents are on Medicaid, 40% of your constituents are on Medicaid.”
Rep. Randy Weber of Texas did not like being called out. “Will the gentle lady yield?”
“I will not yield because it was a terribly disrespectful comment, and I will not yield to disrespectful men.”
If you were thinking, “that would look GREAT on a shirt or a hat,” you are not alone.
Digital creator Katie Grossbard and the minds behind Social Goods—who provided merch for our convention event last year—jumped on the opportunity, resulting in a collection of shirts, hats, pins and stickers that you can wear to 1) show your disdain for disrespectful men and 2) support electing more women who can steamroll them during the next 3 am committee meeting.
