Women are profoundly under-represented in our government. They make up about 28% of Congress and 28% Governors. We’ve never had a Black woman Governor or a Native woman US Senator. It’s not enough. We are missing out on the best leadership and holistic life experience – and the best outcomes. We know when women lead, everyone (including our planet) is healthier; more people have access to better education; and we’re less likely to be at war. Women leaders understand affordability at a very personal level, the personal and financial cost of caring for family, the day-to-day struggles of working people. Voters trust them on this critical issue. Women leaders are more likely to put ego aside and work together to solve complex problems. They are more accountable as public servants to “we, the people.” We can’t heal and build a strong multi-racial democracy without more women and people of color in power.
Lucky for us there are so many exceptional women running in highly competitive races up and down the ballot. We can support women and take back power from authoritarians all at the same time.
